Today we have another assembly. En. Zaini Raya ( Pengurus Kawasan ) and En. Mohmad ( Jurutera Kanan Pembinaan dan Servis ) was also here this morning. The assembly is regarding the technical sports ( sukan teknikal) that will be organized by TNB Pasir Gudang this year but will be held at yard Kempas, Johor Bahru. The assembly is to announce the lists of participants that will participate in technical sports later on Thursday.

After that, we have a shut down project at P/E Taman Kenanga No.2 and No.3 for preventive works.


Preventive Procedure

1. The monthly shutdown schedule was prepared and submit to RCC ( regional control center ) two month before.

2. Submit the actual shutdown schedule to RCC a month before.

3. After getting an approval from RCC, they will key in the data in online shutdown management system to print out the notices for consumer.

4. Sent the notice to consumer to let them know there will be no electricity supply during this time.

5.The authorized person (AP) will request a permission from controller for the shutdown process.

6.RCC will issue authorization to AP.

7. For safety , AP will issue a SKMK ( Sijil Kebenaran Melakukan Kerja ) or PTW ( Permit To Work ) to CP.

8. Started the preventive works.

9. CP ( competence person) will canceled the PTW and submitted to AP.

10. AP will canceled the Autorization that given by RCC.

11.Start switching again

12. After everything was back to normal ( electric supply was back again ) informed RCC.

Today is the eighth weeks of my internship. Every Monday we will have assembly in front of the main building. As you can see before my schedule during internship, i suppose to be under street lighting unit until end of this week, however i decided to join substation unit earlier because there is a lot i have to learn under substation unit. So, today i report duty to En. Hamid ( AP ) and accompanied him to to do switching (turn off the electricity supply) at Horizon Hill for maintenance job.

Today after the morning briefing, everybody was going to finish their paper work. So today, no outside job. I just sat at the office and finished my log book. After asking a permission from one of the person in charge of wagon, i got my chance to ride the wagon and stand inside the wagon's basket :D

Today after the morning briefing by En. Norakmal, i accompanied SAVR team to one big project that include many people at Kampung Bakar Batu. The project is to cut the electricity supply for a few houses that does not have land grant which owned by mostly Indonesian. The government want to demolish the houses regarding to a highway project or to create a new route. I am not sure about this. This is quite sad because they are poor but we (TNB) have to do our job. We cut the electricity supply after the houses was comfirmed to be demolished.Today they will demolished only eight houses. However, government is not the one to be blame because they got the notice to clear the house since last year and again the government send them a new notices 3 month before they demolished the houses.

After morning briefing, i accompanied En. Zul and En. Wan, both of them is street lighting's technician to to their job. They actually in a standby mode which they have to finish the job ( on the spot ) that the consumer asked to or if anything bad happened that involved consumer's right regardless of time.

En. Wan taught me a lots.

There was a few types of light:

1.400w ( highway or federal )
2.150w ( main road )
3.100w/70w ( lanes , 70w is old light system for lanes)

there is a few system for street lighting:
1. Panel controlled -MPJB
- MPJBT
2. Owner - at their house. there will be charge - RM10 ( 150w )
- RM 7 ( 70w )
3. KPLB ( kemajuan pembangunan luar bandar ) - kampung
4.LJK ( Lampu Jalan Kampung )

both KPLB and LJK was paid by government.

there is two type of street lighting pole. one is galvanised and the other one is spun concrete pole. If you see the galvanised pole, that one is not tnb's street lighting pole. That one was maintained by JKR or MPJB.

The distance between street lighting pole and another was 25 meter. The height was 9 meter. is the higher than overhead cable which was 7.5 meter ( SAVR ) .

There is a few brand for street lighting (TNB) :
1. Muarlite
2. Permintex
3.Amat Sinar (known as ASL)


After that, we went to Taman Tun Aminah to see the traffic light that have problems. TNB is not in charge for traffic light but TNB is giving them a supply. Since the traffic light is not working so there must be a problems regarding the supply.

after checking the current and everything was okey at the panel, mybe there was something wrong with the IPC. So they change the IPC and everything turns to be normal again. Sometimes the IPC is broken or loose until not touching the cabel.

A usual, a morning briefing is a must :) Today i accompanied Project's team off to shut down project at Taman . I got to see the jointer gang where they joined the cable at joint pit. Unfortunately, after a few hours waiting, the shut down project have to be delayed since there was another work have to be done first. They send me home and they continued the shut down project at night.

Today is my seventh week of practical training. I was under Street Lighting's team starting from today. It was very interesting when you will be learning about street lighting where before this you do not think about it at all. I report duty to En. Shafei'e Harun. There was 7 team of street lighting unit.

The street light have three types:
1. 100w
2.150w ( bigger bulb )

Nowadays, most of the street light using photocell to manage the lights. A photocell is a type of resistor. When light strikes the cell, it allows current to flow more freely. When dark, its resistance increases dramatically. Photocells need some calibration to be responsive in the exact lighting scenario you have. They can be used to detect large or small fluctuations in light levels to distinguish between one light bulb and two, direct sunlight and total darkness, or anything in
between.





the photocell was placed at the panel, pole or sometimes at the bracket itself































the component inside the light is:
1. choke ( no neutral )
2.capacitor / lighter / starter ( have neutral )



























The component that often broken or damaged is the lighter. The choke was rarely broken. The damage was usually caused by lightning. But when it was strike by lightning not only the lighter was broken but other component such as bulb also will be damaged. The IPC for street lighting also always damaged.

The wire that we have been used for street lighting is 185/95mmp.

The cutout always broken or burning and will be melting, so nowadays they replace the cutout with black box since black box ( 160A ) is more durable.the fuse for the black box is 125A.

Today we have one job to do for consumer. It was at Taman Permatang Kempas, where the overhead cable was sagging and almost fell down infront of their house. It is very dangerous if we let it be like that. We have to pull it back to the original place to prevent from something bad happened.

Firstly, one rope was tied to the sagging cable. One worker ( En. Azmi ) have to be up to tie the rope to the cable. After that, En. Asmawi and En. Shahrin pulled the rope to reduce sagging. After they pulled the rope and the cable was back at it original placed, En. Azmi change a new DEC ( dead end clamp ) for the cable.

Today, in the morning we have a Solat Hajat ceremony at the Kempas Quarters. This is to reduce a breakdown problems in Johor Bahru because Johor Bahru have a quite high ranking for breakdown problems.

After that, we carried out patrols in our area which is near Kempas itself. We went to Jalan Bandaran Utama, Jalan Banjaran 3, Jalan Banjaran 4. We also went to look at the placed where we have to do maintance job for tomorrow. The place that will be involved is Jalan Bukit Mewah 4/5, 4/6, 4/7, 4/8, 4/9.

As usual, morning roll call and briefing from En. Norakmal.. After, went to Setia Tropika to do paid work ( kerja-kerja yang dibayar ) to resite the five foot way and meter box because the owner extend the house, so have to resite the cables and meter box.

The first step is, we have to switch off the supply by pull out the fuse at black box. Second step is we have to take out the existing connection and also the meter box. The team will discussed about the new connection and where to place the meter.










































Third step is we placed the cable holder to the wall, placed the new cable on the cable holder ( one black box give supply to 3 unit houses, so the connection connect to 3 house)




























Forth step is we have to cut the cable based on measuring. The cable is cut into 4 pieces for three phase system. The existence connection will be marked with tape.

Next, the cable will be placed on the cable holder and clip was used to hold the cable at its place. After that, En. Shahrin join the existing cable connection with new connection using junction box. In this case, two junction box have been used since the house used three phase system.






























The junction box was used to do connection between cable and also to avoid the phase cable from touching each other ( the connection part) because if the connection part of different phase touching each other the system may collapse.

Today is my second week under SAVR team. Today we went again to Taman Munsyi Ibrahim. Our team have to extend a connection from main to the black box. It was done as a standby system if in case it is over load.

Cable ABC 3x195mm2 have been used for this system. For each cable, one to three, we have to mark the cable using tape referred to the phase of the system. the forth cable is neutral cable. For neutral cable, the diameter is smaller than other cable. The numbering is done to make sure the connection is correct after we cut out the cable. Each cable have their owned number but the number is too small. Thats why, we have to mark it with tape to make things easier for connection purposes. We have to connect the cable correctly to prevent electrical component for house or system that used three phase system from damaged. If it is connect not in order, the electrical equipment such as air conditioner ( or anything that run by motor ) will easily damaged because the motor will rotate anti-clockwise and cause heat. From time to time, the equipment will blow.

For the 5th weeks, i've been placed under Street lighting. I report duty to En. Norakmal Mohd. Arif, Pembantu Kejuruteraan Kendalian & Senggaraan. But En. Norakmal want me to follow SAVR ( sesalur atas voltan rendah) gang first, then street lighting. I just follow his ordered. I've been placed under gang SAVR 3 today. The person in charge or leader for today is En. Rahman ( he is senior staff ) . Today is also my first time ride a lorry. haha ^_^ what a good experiences i have :) We went to Taman Molek, there is one construction ( they want to build a market near the buddha temple) so the electric pole ( connect to the temple) is limiting their work ( for lorry, bulldozers and all ) . The SAVR job for today is, they have to resite the electric pole.
