Today is my seventh week of practical training. I was under Street Lighting's team starting from today. It was very interesting when you will be learning about street lighting where before this you do not think about it at all. I report duty to En. Shafei'e Harun. There was 7 team of street lighting unit.

The street light have three types:
1. 100w
2.150w ( bigger bulb )
3.70w
Nowadays, most of the street light using photocell to manage the lights. A photocell is a type of resistor. When light strikes the cell, it allows current to flow more freely. When dark, its resistance increases dramatically. Photocells need some calibration to be responsive in the exact lighting scenario you have. They can be used to detect large or small fluctuations in light levels to distinguish between one light bulb and two, direct sunlight and total darkness, or anything in
between.
the photocell was placed at the panel, pole or sometimes at the bracket itself
the component inside the light is:
1. choke ( no neutral )
2.capacitor / lighter / starter ( have neutral )
The component that often broken or damaged is the lighter. The choke was rarely broken. The damage was usually caused by lightning. But when it was strike by lightning not only the lighter was broken but other component such as bulb also will be damaged. The IPC for street lighting also always damaged.
The wire that we have been used for street lighting is 185/95mmp.

The cutout always broken or burning and will be melting, so nowadays they replace the cutout with black box since black box ( 160A ) is more durable.the fuse for the black box is 125A.
